Göteborg
Sunday morning we woke up early to catch the ferry out to the islands off the coast of Gothenburg, Sweden's second largest city. This is the view from the top of the island, Styrsö Bratten. Thankfully we had fantastic weather even during this late September weekend. The rest of the morning was spent walking through the villages of the island, taking lots of photos and then catching a ferry back to shore to explore more of the city.
Okay, so things don't always go as planned...we made the mistake of driving into the city center. Due to construction of the Göteborg tunnel, traffic was rerouted and here we spent about 2 hours travelling only several hundred meters! So we did the most economical thing we could think of...we turned off the engine and walked the car down mainstreet :-) Thank goodness for small European cars. And yes we did indeed fit five people into this vehicle!
This is a scene from downtown Göteborg. The city has many canals due to the fact that is was designed in part by the Dutch. Again, here is beautiful imagery of the buildings and the traffic jam that we spend some time in as well!
Me crawling through Ubåten Nordkaparen, a submarine that is part of the Göteborgs Maritima Centrum. It was a lot of fun, but I can't imagine actually having to live in one of these for an extended period of time!
It's not the best quality photo but this was dinner after a long day exploring the city. We went to a Swedish restaurant called Smaka and I enjoyed Älgfärsbiff (Elk steak) with mushrooms, potatoes and traditional juniper sauce. It was quite delicious but unfortunatly I have not seen a live Elk yet. I will let you know when I do!

Lisa! That traffic looked like Houston when the hurricane was a comin'. I'm glad you're having fun and exploring. I went down to UT the other night to meet some friends and thought of you. Miss you! -Dani
